The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr Gift Worlu, has described women as great mobilizers and assured that they will be fully incorporated in the scheme of governance in Obio/Akpor.
Dr. Worlu gave the assurance when he received the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) women leaders from the 17 wards in Obio/Akpor, led by the PDP Local Government Area Women Leader, Mrs Gloria Wonodi, at the Executive Chamber of the Obio/Akpor Council Secretariat, Rumuodamaya.
He expressed happiness over the meeting, noting that the various women leaders were carefully selected, which underscores the critical role women play in grassroots mobilisation and party organisation. He cautioned against politics of bitterness, urging party members not to resort to blackmail or bcakbiting because of political differences.
According to him, his emergence as Chairman was divinely ordained, stressing that events surrounding his administration clearly shows the hand of God.
Dr Gift Worlu further disclosed that the council plans to tour the 17 wards next year to formally thank the people of Obio/Akpor for their support during the 2025 Local Government elections in Rivers State.
In her remarks, the PDP Obio/Akpor Women Leader, Mrs Gloria Wonodi, thanked the Chairman for granting the women audience and congratulated him on his swearing-in as Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
She noted that her relationship with Dr Gift Worlu dates several years back , describing him as a good man with the capacity to take Obio/Akpor to enviable heights. Mrs Wonodi highlighted some projects and policies already embarked upon by the administration, including the provision of transformers, improvement of the drainage system at the council secretariat, which has helped to curb flash flooding, and the resolution of traffic gridlock around Rumuokoro, leading to free flow of human and vehicular traffic.
She also commended the Chairman for organising an economic empowerment summit and holding strategic meetings with farmers in Obio/Akpor, describing the initiatives as laudable.
Mrs Wonodi appealed to the Chairman to always carry women leaders along in the scheme of governance, assuring him of the continued support of PDP women across the local government.
